Subway Art goes digital « UniverSOUL Productions’ Weblog

[...] Subway Art goes digital I found this at Complex.  I encourage all graffiti and hip hop lovers to check the online version and cop the physical mag if you can.  It really captures that energetic vibe that the culture had back then.  You can feel it.  Those people were breaking new ground every day.  What a feeling. Subway Art is one of the most definitive books detailing and popularizing NYC graffiti history. Published back in 1988, it features the photos of legendary graffiti documenters Martha Cooper andHenry Chalfant. While Faith of Graffiti took a first crack at the newly emerging art form in the 70’s,Subway Art focused specifically on the masterpieces that were painted on the subway cars during graffiti’s heyday in the early 80’s. Some of have described it as the print version of classic graffiti cult documentary Style Wars—which Chalfant also worked on. While we of course would urge you to get yourself a physical copy, feel free to peruse this digital version from cover to cover [Whatyouwrite]  [...]
