Hector Nazario creates graffiti murals for victims, but this time, violence hits close to home
Hector Nazario and his TATs Cru graffiti guys won fame for painting hundreds of murals honoring the city’s victims of street violence in the 1990s – and fortune doing arts projects for companies like Reebok and Coca-Cola.
As the murder rate plunged, so did requests for memorial walls.
Then, two weeks ago, Nazario‘s only child was killed in a hail of gunfire in the Bronx.
The irony is not lost on him.
“I have seen so much tragedy like that, and I lost my son to a senseless act of violence,” Nazario said. “I never thought it would happen to him.”
His son Bleu was slain July 11 at a barbecue in the Pelham Parkway Houses. Shortly after midnight, a dispute broke out. Two men whipped out guns and fired 10 to 13 shots into the crowd.
Bleu Nazario, 22, took a bullet in the chest and died at the scene. Another man was shot five times and is in Jacobi Hospital.
Police have no suspects or motive for the shooting, one of four murders in the city that day.

I was sadden by news when I first heard about it: as a father this has to be extremely tough. My sincere condolences to the Nazario Family.
