Alleged tagger, 16, arrested in fatal shooting near L.A. High

A 16-year-old alleged tagger has been arrested in connection with the shooting death this week of another 16-year-old boy near Los Angeles High School, police said today.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested Wednesday after witnesses identified him, Los Angeles Police Department officials said in a statement.

The suspect and the victim, Adrian Garcia-Diaz, were former Los Angeles High students who each had been expelled for disciplinary reasons, said Sgt. Mike Ventura. They had not, however, attended the school at the same time.

“It’s not like there was bad blood because of something that occurred during the school year previously,” Ventura said.

The alleged shooter and the dead youth were enrolled at continuation high schools, police said. They belonged to rival tagging, or graffiti, crews associated with local gangs, police said.

On Tuesday afternoon, they had joined a crowd of youths gathered at Windsor Park near Olympic and Plymouth boulevards for a fight between their crews that drew other crews too, Ventura said.

Some members of the crowd brought video cameras to film the fight, and investigators are still attempting to obtain footage, he said.

“Hopefully we can find somebody out there who has some kind of sympathy and is willing to be cooperative and bring us some videotaped evidence,” Ventura said.

During the gathering, which involved students from Los Angeles High, a fight broke out and escalated until the suspect pulled a handgun and fired a shot into the crowd, striking Garcia-Diaz in the chest, police said.

Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene and said that since both youths were Latino, race was not a factor in the shooting.

Garcia-Diaz was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.

The suspect was being held without bail.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at (213) 473-0446.

Graffiti Writer falls from a Freeway overpass in East Los Angeles

Witnesses say he fell onto the interstate near the Main Street off-ramp with a can of spray paint in his hands.

A man apparently spray painting graffiti on an overpass fell Saturday night onto the 5 Freeway in East Los Angeles, authorities said.

Several motorists told authorities that the man had possibly broken his back at about 9:45 p.m. and had a can of spray paint clutched in his hands as he lay on the freeway near the Main Street off-ramp, said California Highway Patrol spokesman David Porter. Porter said the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was being treated.

The accident comes about three weeks after prolific tagger Cyrus Yazdani — who goes by the moniker “Buket” — was arrested for causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage.

Yazdani is perhaps most recognized for a YouTube video that shows him climbing and spray painting behind the Hollywood Freeway sign near Melrose Avenue as traffic speeds below.

Here it is the joiner and the story in his own words from the main that is Mr Amuk….

“yo, my little story.

“The joiner for this has been up in a few places already but this is the kinda official posting.

“In the last year or so graff has seen a number of big pieces crop up, Aroe’s MSK, our KYS, RT’s big wall then Ekto stepped up with a big wildstyle, setting the pace for the next contender.

“Those of you who know me will know I have a bit of a hankering for going big, I have done a few big piece and always enjoy a big chrome here and there. I have always wanted to do something huge, ever since I heard about Saber’s huge pieces and the monster in the L.A river. For about a year I have been keeping my eyes and ears open for a wall big enough to do something like this, I remembered seeing a video clip of a wall that looked huge but I couldnt think where I saw it or where it was located. Recently I met a writer called Naru and after talking for a bit, told me about a big wall near newcastle. After seeing some photos I realised it was the one from the video so I started planning to take a trip up there.
