eazy & joz

Growing up I never had real idols to look up to besides Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield. There was no one I really wanted to emulate. Luckily coming from a third world family I had relatives in all the best parts of the city- South Bronx, Bushwick, The Heights and every fucked up neighborhood in Queens. On Sundays after church we would pack into the car and go from house to house visiting my family. The only thing to do was look out the window and peep whats going on. I’ve been a graffiti nerd since about 6 or so. What I noticed was on every highway and street was JOZ and Easy. Sometimes there would be a Josh5 tag along but for the most part it was JOZ and Easy wherever I went. Now it wasn’t just some bullshit catch one tag on every block, these dudes crushed store front grills like nobodies business. Seeing these dudes get up blew my fucking mind as a kid. Unfortunately there isn’t much documentation on the intoenets but take these photos and multiply by 1000….it still wouldn’t give these men any justice. There was no Batman and Robin for me…but fuck JOZ and Easy were the truth…. (via)

  1. I SECOND THAT..I grew up paying attention to graff at a very young age and JOZ, EASY had shit on lock down. I was very lucky to meet them when they did there interview for stress Magazine back in the 90’s with Cope2. I also liked seeing JP.. up as well as far as tagging goes. These new toys know nothing about this. Wish dudes would get back on the tags and outlines on whole strips like before. Maybe we need to get the ball rolling to get that era back into the present day. To bad you cant catch nice fat cap tags with rustos anymore.

  2. Yeah that’s Trap and Joz in the bottom picture. Joz and Easy came up in a recent discussion about who the hottest bombers were in the mid 80s – mid 90s. Here’s the list, most of us talking about this were from Queens or Brooklyn:

    JA
    DUEL
    Ghost
    MQ
    Sane/Smith
    Bester
    Joz One
    Easy
    Jew
    RogRoc
    Veefer
    KET
    BUGS
    BESTER
    WEBONE
    TRAP
    ENUF
    KEZ5
    TKA
    AVE
    MAP
    SPESH
    REVS
    COST
    AIR
    TEKAY
    OE
    EZO
    COPE2

  3. i also grew up in the same fashion that the OP has.

JOZ and EASY are most the most up in my time in south Bronx 1985-1993. on my building on Tremont and Grand concourse, they had what I would say 6ft “TAGS” fat 5-7 finger cap flat black that rode for almost 5 year. Cheap Jew landlord never pressure cleaned it. We’ll those tags really introduce played a vivid role in my youth and what lead to my interested in Graff. Not to mention that Jew BT lived right around the block help my young mind rationalize that an actual person can be up everywhere. Great post.

  4. it’s actually time to bring back outlines and tags since 90% of the gates in NYC will be wiped out due to this new law. All that pretty much means is that there’s going to be a LOT more room to rock.
